changing oncology for the better. Regional Senior Medical Officer
Purpose of Job: The Regional Senior Medical Officer ( SMO ) will
provide senior clinical oversight to an assigned group of medical
directors and input to the Chief Medical Officer and Executive Team
on matters related to clinical leadership and the clinical care
model for The Oncology Institute ( TOI ). The following is a list
of assigned duties which will be under the purview of the SMO with
other activities as assigned by the Chief Medical Officer (or his
or her designee) This role reports to the Chief Medical Officer.
Responsibilities
- Physician will be engaged in active clinical practice at least
3 days per week at one of the clinic locations in their region. 2
days per week will be designated for administrative duties.
- In addition, shall include but not be limited to:
- Close partnership with the Senior Director of Operations for
the Region in management of the regional P&L and key goals to
drive growth of the business.
- Partner with the business development team to assist in matters
of contracting, acquisitions, and payor relations for opportunities
in the assigned region.
- Direct oversight of all Medical Directors and Physicians in
assigned region:
- Weekly 1:1 s with Pod Medical Directors reviewing matters
related to clinical and operational performance, physician
staffing, and growth
- Recruit and train new clinical leaders as the region grows to
ensure adequate support for practice growth
- Drive recruiting of new providers to the Region and work with
the CMO in coordinating offers and clinic staffing decisions
- Oversee the onboarding process for new providers to ensure they
deliver exceptional patient experience and appropriate care in
accordance with the value-based practices of The Oncology Institute
- Partner with other leaders to integrate practices acquired by
TOI and launch new clinics in region to support business
growth
- Be a regular member of the Executive Leadership meetings, and
report out to the Executive team on the progress of their assigned
region
- Work with CMO to ensure all high-level annual clinical goals
are met for assigned region
- Drive payor and medical group relations through attendance at
regional JOCs and other key meetings
- Partner with UM medical directors to ensure appropriate
utilization patterns and adoption of new protocols by physicians in
Region
- Partner with CMO and head of clinical trials to ensure region
is performing to goal with respect to adoption of new clinical
trials and enrollment of appropriate patients
- Attend the following key internal meetings: Monthly Financial
Review, Physician Recruiting Calls, Executive Operating Team and
clinical meetings as assigned by CMO
- Performs other duties as assigned and modified at CMO s
discretion. Experience, Education, and Qualifications
- MD, DO
- Licensed for the practice of medicine or ability to obtain
licensure in the state of the clinic practice
- Board Certified, eligible in Hematology/Oncology, in good
standing
- Minimum five to eight years experience providing medical
direction and oversight to teams
- Experience and knowledge of multi-ethnic and community-based
clinic environment KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- High business acumen and acuity
- A passion for providing excellent clinical care
- Ability to work in a collaborative and team-oriented
environment
- Skillful at building core relationships, establishing
credibility and an influential communicator
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products including Word,
Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, plus a variety of other
word-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail and presentation
software
- Ability and willingness to travel locally, regionally and
nationwide up to 15%of the time
- Spoken and written fluency in English
- Ability to use and exercise of sound independent judgment and

$250,000-$450,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical
wage range of candidates hired. Factors that may be used to
