Description:The Assistant Director of Residential Education,
Continuing Student Communities is a live-in position that focuses
on fostering community and opportunities for growth and development
in alignment with the timely needs of the Residential Life Team.
This position is expected to evolve over time and may require
shifting of focus to other residential populations once a
successful program is established in the second-year communities.
Reporting to the Associate Director of Residential Education, the
Assistant Director supports the priorities and initiatives guiding
the second-year residential experience, and provides overall
leadership for the professional, paraprofessional, and student
staff in these areas.Duties and Responsibilities:Staff Selection,
Supervision, and Professional Development
- In consultation with the Associate Director, train, develop,
and supervise the professional live-in staff in all areas of
responsibility.
- Meet with direct supervisees (Community Directors) one-on-one
on a regular basis to provide guidance, direction, and
support.
- Provide regular feedback to Residential Education staff
regarding areas of strength and growth.
- Provide coaching and feedback to Community Directors on job
duties tied to timely and thorough management and completion of the
conduct process.
- Serve as the first level of support for residential issues
managed by direct reports.
- Support Associate Director in CD search and hiring
process.Program Development
- Review and assess current second-year curriculum for impact,
effectiveness and opportunities for growth.
- Collaborate with key campus stakeholders to address unique
needs of second-year students.
- Identify opportunities for collaborative projects to expand the
reach of second-year experience programming.
- Lead the internal Residential Education committees.
- Represent Residential Education in appropriate committees and
meetings.
- Work collaboratively with Community Directors to ensure
programmatic alignment.
- Provide fiduciary oversight related to budgets and
spending.On-call, Wellness, and Safety
- Serve in the on-call rotation which includes emergency
response.
- Work closely with the Department of Public Safety on all
proactive safety campaigns.
- Work closely with the Wellness division to administer proactive
wellness campaigns.Residential Life Administration
- Assist with evaluation and assessment of department's programs,
services, policies and procedures.
- Monitor Residential Education budgets.
- Serve on committees as assigned by the Director of Residential
Life.
- Contribute to additional division/campus projects as
needed.Special Conditions of Employment:
- This is a live-on position. Must be available for "on call"
responsibilities.Background check: Successful completion of a
pre-employment background check.Degree Verification Requirement:
Persons offered employment in this position will be required to
provide official education transcripts for degree verification
purposes.Job Requirements:Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree required; Master's degree in student
development, counseling or related area strongly preferred.
- Minimum of two years of experience in Residence Life
required.Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supervising staff preferred.Performance
Expectations:
- Knowledge of and direct compliance with all USD Residence Life
and University policies.
- Ability to advise students and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse backgrounds.
- Possess strong writing ability and organizational skills.
- Attend and participate on assigned University committees.
- Maintain positive working relationships with all University
departments.
- Work effectively with off-campus city and law enforcement
officials.
- Attend workshops to remain up-to-date on current university
policies.
- Willingness to support the Catholic mission and vision of the
University.$6,000.00 - 6,100.00 per month; Excellent Benefits, Room
