Job DescriptionFounded in 2007, The Oncology Institute of Hope
and Innovation (TOI) is the largest community oncology practice on
the West Coast, and the nation's leading value-based oncology
services platform. TOI manages more than 90 Physicians and Advanced
Practice Professionals in over 50 clinic locations and growing,
with approximately 700 total employees helping to deliver cutting
edge, evidence-based cancer care to a population of over 1.5
million patients. TOI is headquartered in Cerritos, CA, and serves
patients in California, Arizona, Florida, and Nevada. TOI brings
high quality cancer care into community settings, and its size and
scope allow it to serve patients in ways most community-based
oncology practices cannot. For example, TOI's distinctive
capabilities include clinical trials, stem cell transplants,
transfusions, in-house dispensary and lab, and other care delivery
more traditionally associated with tertiary care settings. TOI
contracts with health plans and medical groups on an at-risk basis,
taking accountability for the medical costs and the health outcomes
of its patient population. TOI has raised significant growth
capital and expects to continue to grow meaningfully over the
coming years, including existing market growth, expansion to new
markets within current states, and entry into new states.We are
seeking a high-energy, action-oriented, mission-driven person to
help TOI expand operations to new markets and clinic locations,
bringing TOI's high quality cancer care model to sites across the
country. The role will include both de novo market operational
stand-up and launches, as well as acquired practice integration.The
right candidate will be able to think both operationally and
strategically, has a passion for deep analysis and understanding
key problems and solutioning, and has the ability to lead and
influence others without direct authority. We're looking for
somebody who thrives in a fast-paced work environment, with the
desire to showcase your project management, analytical, and
operational skills with broad exposure to The Oncology Institute's
leadership team and desire to understand, improve, and expand TOI's
business and practice.This individual, reporting to the Senior
Director, New Market Operations & Implementation, will work
cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders to
support all aspects of new market oncology clinic operations
stand-up, including but not limited to staff onboarding, real
estate, technology, process implementation,
compliance/licensing/account setup, etc. In addition, this person
will play a critical role in monitoring the operational processes
and project plans for de novo and acquired sites, and may take on
other strategic operational roles and projects over time, such as
standing up new services and service lines.Travel is anticipated to
vary over time between 25-50%. Core Responsibilities:
- Quarterback new market projects, including operational stand-up
and implementation and strategic practice acquisition integrations
to ensure they are completed in a timely fashion and within
budget
- Serve as interim new market operational lead
- Assist with on-boarding of initial hires within new markets or
geographies, in partnership with clinical and other leaders across
the practice
- Represent TOI in establishing outreach and
relationship-building efforts with primary care physicians (PCPs)
and other referring physicians, payors, and medical group
partners
- Manage new implementations or integrations on a successful path
to deliver high quality, evidence-based, and a value-based oncology
care with excellent patient experience, in line with TOI's core
care model
- Own operational diligence and operational integration planning
and process for practice acquisitions under consideration, and, as
appropriate, integration planning overall – working in coordination
with the Sr. Director, New Market Ops & Implementation
- Implement systems, policies, and procedures for the
identification, collection, and analysis of performance measurement
data and related information
- Own new implementations & integrations program development,
tools, and processes to keep TOI at the forefront of value-based
oncology
- Manage the new TOI office location setup process including
coordinating proper company resources to ensure efficient and
stable results. For new market standup, this includes clinic site
selection, lease negotiations, space plan finalization, and
construction/tenant improvements.
- Participate in building strong cross-functional relationships
with key stakeholders, leadership teams and internal departments to
carry out key projects. Work collaboratively to drive successful
completion of tactical and strategic objectives.
- Maintain an awareness of the competitive healthcare
environment; actively drive operational start-up and integration
performance ensuring that TOI's service levels exceed other
healthcare providers
- Delivers oversight of all relevant standards, policies, and
procedures
- Other related duties as determined by the Senior Director, New
Market Operations and Implementation Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in healthcare related field or business
administration required; Master's Degree strongly preferred
- 5+ years relevant experience in healthcare services, including
value-based care delivery, payor, medical group, or specialty
organizations, including operational leadership roles, and/or
related experience in management consulting, strategy, professional
services, or similar
- Strong team and project management skills with an understanding
of the big picture, ability to lead multiple complex projects, and
a track record of delivering from planning to implementation to
refinement; ability to prioritize tasks effectively
- Superb analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability
to understand, analyze and assimilate complex issues, draw correct
conclusions, and formulate clear strategy and policy
- High-energy, entrepreneurial, and creative approach to
operational problems
- Outcome- and action-orientation; comfort with a fast-paced work
environment and organizational growth
- Experience with process redesign, service improvement efforts,
and/or operational improvement preferred
- On-the-ground experience with acquisitions and post-M&A
integration preferred
- Experience with cultural and organization transformation
preferred
- Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and
verbal), interpersonal skills, and natural ability to connect with
others; professional demeanor
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to effectively leverage business and organizational
knowledge within and across functions
- Mastery of computer skills, including Word, Excel, Power Point
with experience with electronic medical record and practice
management systems preferred
